Please assist Rotary Club of Grimsby support the eradication of Polio around the world . Through the efforts of the World Health Organization, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Rotary Foundation polio is only present in 2 remote areas of the world.
Polio is not curable but can be prevented by vaccines. Unlike most diseases polio can be eradicated. It is important that vaccine program is maintained as eradication is certainly possible now.
Our cycling team is now cycling 22kms along the North Service Road heading east on October 24th. Our cycling team has a goal of raising USD 3,250 with USD 2,799 raised as of Sunday October 18th.
A tax receipt is issued in Canadian dollars for any donations. A donation of any amount is greatly appreciated by the Rotary Cycling team.

The Rotary Club of Grimsby (RCoG) is contributing to this year's World Polio Day (October 24 - 2020) by joining other Rotary Clubs in District 7090 in a "Pedal for Polio" bicycling event from the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, Ontario to Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake (22 km). The event is also held in honour of Dr. Ron Mergyl, a prominent Rotarian who recently passed away.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year we will not be able to join our American District 7090 compatriots, but we will wave to them across the Niagara River, as they bicycle a similar route on the US side of the border.
Please join Rotary International (RI) in continuing our worldwide fight against Polio (99.9% reduction in polio in 30 years) by sponsoring members of our "Rotary Club of Grimsby Pedal for Polio Bicycling Team". NEWS: A local anonymous donor will be matching the amount raised by the Rotary Club of Grimsby Pedal for Polio Bicycling Team (up to $1500). Thereafter, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will double that total.
The RCoG club's internal goal is $3000 USD, which would be raised to $4500 by our donor, and then doubled to $9000 by Bill & Melinda.

Rotary has lead the world in eradicating polio for the past 30 years and progress has been impressive with 2.5 billion children in 122 countries immunized. Today only cases remain in three countries. There is no cure for Polio and the only effective way to control it is with an effective vaccine program. Rotary has contributed more than USD 1.8 billion to the program.
Our Club is attempting to raise USD3,000 by October 24th in support of World Polio Day.
