Why I am fundraising for The Rotary Foundation
Dear Family & Friends
Late last year I was presented with the opportunity to join a group of people from the Rotary Club of Berry NSW for a life-changing trip to Nepal to raise funds for Rotary’s Polio Fund.
A trek in the Himalayas is something I’ve thought of for some time now, and I therefore signed up for the challenge. On Easter Monday I’ll be flying out with the group to Nepal to begin a three-week trek to Everest Base Camp, as part of Rotary’s campaign to eradicate polio worldwide.
Polio (Poliomyelitis) is a highly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under 5 years old. Although there is no cure there is a safe and effective vaccine, one which Rotary and their partners have used to immunize over 2.5 billion children worldwide. Cases have been reduced by 99.9% since 1988 and Rotary are on target to totally eradicate polio in the next few years, but until then every child is at risk.
My goal is to raise $2,000 to help eradicate polio once and for all, to ensure all children worldwide are vaccinated, particularly those living in Afghanistan and Pakistan where it is still prevalent. All monies raised go directly to the Rotary Polio Fund. Every donation helps, and our fundraising efforts will be matched by the Gates Foundation at $2 for every $1 raised.
Thank you for your consideration. I would be personally grateful for any assistance you can give.
Warm regards, Therese X
