This is the Eradicate Polio Donation Page. This walk will follow 2 pilgrimage routes. UK to Mont Saint Michel then From Vezelay to St. Jean Pied de Port France which is 1,000 Km. If I make it that far then maybe I will keep going across Spain.
Polio is a virus that cripples children and often kills them. In the 1980s, the world saw approximately 1,000 children paralysed by polio every day. In 2021-22 there were only 8 known wild polio cases worldwide. Polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan (1) and Pakistan (7). The world has never been so close eradicating this terrible desease!
We have not experienced polio in Australia for several decades, however it is crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will match donations made 2-1 (tripled), getting us even closer to a polio-free word!
