Dr. Himansu Kumar Basu is a Rotarian with 40 + years experience as an Obstetrician Gynaecologist in the UK and is now retired. He is committed to improving health of Mothers and Babies through global partnership, funding, hands on efforts and advocacy roles. While there is no vaccines against mother and child deaths during birthing, there are methods to reduce same. He stresses the need to prepare mothers for pregnancies by improving their lot through improved nourishment and medical interventions when necessary, to strengthen their bodies to undergo birthing. This is achieved by improving the nourishment and medical assistance well before birth! He says that improving the skills of the medical teams during the delivery stages is important, but it will not guarantee a successful delivery, nor a healthy baby, if the mother is weak due to a prior life lacking proper nutrition and health care. ..................
