Update #3

We begin in front of the Rotary tent across from lot 4 in Beaver Island Park. We welcome anyone to sign up and raise funds to End Polio by Walking, Running or Biking the lovely West River Trail on Grand Island, NY. The trail is 8 miles in length, 16 miles round trip. West River Trail is a paved trail along the Niagara River from Beaver Island State Park to Buckhorn State Park. The trail is fairly flat with two overlooks and some benches scattered along the trail to stop and rest. It is not shaded. You can do what you are able and return to the start. The views of the river are beautiful. Portable Toilets are found at the beginning and end of the trail.

Why we are fundraising for The Rotary Foundation
District 7090 is hosting the Annual Participate for Polio event on Saturday, September 13, 2025. This annual fundraiser supports PolioPlus, Rotary’s initiative to eradicate polio worldwide.

Our fundraising goal: $3,000 US from the New York side of District 7090. Rotarians in Ontario are also encouraged to participate or donate, thanks to the leadership of Frank Adamson from the Rotary Club of Fonthill.

Why It Matters: Before 1988, polio paralyzed 350,000 children every year. Due to global efforts led by Rotary, polio cases have dropped by 99.9%. Today, 20 million children walk who otherwise would have been paralyzed. Only two countries—Afghanistan and Pakistan—remain endemic in 2025.

Although we are closer than ever, significant challenges remain. Every $1 you give becomes $3 thanks to the 2:1 match from the Gates Foundation. Let's End Polio Now.
