Rotary District 9980 recently hosted a “Pumpkins for Polio” pumpkin growing contest. PDG Nick Wood reports the contest raised over NZ$ 50,000 and with the District and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches, raised NZ $216,486 to eradicate polio.

Many of the pumpkins were only suitable for livestock feed or compost, but 4 Rotarians opted to grow N. American Halloween-style pumpkins. They donated these to Rotary’s global Water and Sanitation/Hygiene (WASH) eClub & D9999 Dunedin Rotaract for a pumpkin-carving contest which engaged over Zoom the No Borders Rotaract eClub to help with safety tips, tricks, and design coaching.

The Rotary eClub of WASH is focused on global Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. The eClub format provides the fellowship of a global community of professionals with a common interest in WASH issues.
