Why I am fundraising for The Rotary Foundation
October 24-30th is #WorldImmunizationWeek. Rotary wants to #EndPolioNow, so we're challenging everyone (Yes, YOU) to show their support for our Purple Pinky Project and the fight against polio by contributing to polio eradication.
Why purple pinkies, you ask? Because when children are given the polio vaccine health workers dye their pinkie fingers purple so they know which kids have already received it.
Rotary knows firsthand that #VaccinesWork. Since 1985, we’ve contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children from polio. When children receive the polio vaccine, their pinkie fingers are marked with purple ink so health workers will know which children received the vaccine. Today, only two countries continue to report cases of polio caused by the wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan.
So join the challenge and let's paint the internet purple!!
