Last night I had another friend participate in this fundraiser. Jeff is a member of the Rotary Club Atlanta. Jeff, you understand the cause and I thank you for your support.
We went to our assigned location and were told to wait. Soon after, children came to look at us from a distance ... giggles here and there, they were pointing at looking at us with their beautiful dark eyes and mischievous looks. Some moms nearby preferred to keep a distance, they checked us up, didn't say a word ...
We needed to break the ice. But how?!
The four of us were talking among ourselves and I said: how about if we start taking pictures of each other?
It was magic. See what happened in a matter of seconds: Conor and the children
In March of 2018, I had the opportunity to travel to India to participate in a National Immunization DAY (NID) with a group of friends from my Rotary Club Chicago.
An NID in India means that in one day, throughout the entire country (over 1 billion inhabitants), all children five years old and younger are vaccinated against polio, receiving the drops in their mouths that will save their lives from this horrible disease.
It was impossible for me to fathom the scale of this effort. But in India, not only the process was smooth and efficient, but it was accomplished. Not just this time, but many, many times, year after year, until India became polio free.
In the photo below you will see Kay, Conor and Cheryl, my wonderful teammates.
Here is my husband John and his friend Tom who recently donated to my fundraising campaign. John and Tom go back many, many years and shared an extraordinary trip across Africa, from London to Cape Town. Here they are eating fried caterpillars in Cameroon.
The beauty of campaigning to fight polio is that your friends and family can be a part of this great cause. Polio, your days are numbered!
Friends, I have to tell you that Tom and Margaret surprised me with a mega-donation that helped reach my goal of $1,000. It happened so quickly! Barely a couple of days online and I thought I was about getting started. What does one do? Well, you DOUBLE your goal!
So, game on, I am counting with you!
Tom, Margaret, THANK YOU!!!
I'd like to thank the Anonymous Donor. Every dollar, every cent, everything helps to reach our common goal.
I can't wait to make it to Tucson. Will you join me?
Lori, Dani, big, big thanks for your support! There are many good causes to inspire us to do good in the world, but erasing a disease of the face of the earth it is a might one in my book.
Do as Lori and Dani do! GOOD BYE POLIO!!
