WHY WE ARE RAISING FUNDS FOR POLIO
Montecito Club Rotarians are raising awareness and funds for polio eradication by having small group activities locally such as bike rides, hikes and walks and inviting community members to join us. Every dollar collected will be matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for triple impact.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan & Pakistan, but it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all vaccination efforts stopped today, within 10 years polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children annually.

Our Club is stepping up to take down Polio! Member Lynda Nahra has already logged 400 cycling miles and raised $400 for Polio using our District 5240 fundraising platform. The Rotary Club of Montecito has kicked off its Step Up to Take Down Polio campaign and will continue to raise funds and community awareness right up to the day of our District's World Polio Day Celebration on October 24th. Through decades of Rotary's commitment to end polio around the world, more than 2.5 billion children have received the oral polio vaccine. This important work to keep children polio-free must continue. Please join our effort by making a gift of $10 or more to help support Rotary's work to end this dreaded disease.
