Update #6

Despite COVID I was able to ride and finish the Ride to End Polio at the 39th El Tour de Tucson on Saturday. There were 3 of us from District 5180: Steve Brozosky did the full Century (102 mi), John Messner did the Metric Century (62 mi) and I did the Half Metric Century (32 mi). There were over 7,000 cyclists riding for different charities -- it was awesome! The weather was great, except for Steve's early start when it was in the upper 30s! So glad that I got to do it, I had been thinking of it for years, and I trained an registered last year, but then my fellow riders bailed on me, so I couldn't drive alone, but this year I did it despite COVID!

Why I am fundraising for The Rotary Foundation
I am going to ride a metric half century (31 miles) in the El Tour de Tucson on November 19th to raise money to eliminate polio. Yes there is still polio in the world! Last year there were 6 cases (1 in Pakistan, 1 in Malawi, and 4 in Afghanistan). This year there have been 13 (1 in Afghanistan, 11 in Pakistan, and 1 in Mozambique). Like the case in Malawi, the case in Mozambique was caused by a traveler from Pakistan. So, polio is only a plane ride away from the United States! When Rotary started this campaign to end polio, there were almost 1,000 cases a day in the world. We have to eliminate this disease as we did smallpox. Help me raise funds to win this war against polio!
