Why we are fundraising for The Rotary Foundation
District 7090 is hosting the 6th Annual Dr. Ron Mergl Participate for Polio event on Saturday, September 13, 2025. This annual fundraiser supports PolioPlus, Rotary’s initiative to eradicate polio worldwide.
Our fundraising goal: $5,000 CAD from the Ontario side of District 7090. Rotarians in New York are also encouraged to participate or donate, thanks to the leadership of Sherry Miller from the Rotary Club of Grand Island.
Why It Matters: Before 1988, polio paralyzed 350,000 children every year. Due to global efforts led by Rotary, polio cases have dropped by 99.9%. Today, 20 million children walk who otherwise would have been paralyzed. Only two countries—Afghanistan and Pakistan—remain endemic in 2025.
